Charles Tyrwhitt Shirts

I recently came across a fine bargain for a Charles Tyrwhitt shirt.  The deal is a new Charles Tyrwhitt shirt, from a selection of several hundred patterns and colors as well as a free tie and free shipping for $39.50.  I am not affiliated with Charles Tyrwhitt in any way, but this is an awesome deal!  I have come across a number of Tyrwhitt shirts in my thrifting adventures, and I always grab them, because they are very popular and high quality.  I decided to take the plunge and ordered a white "oxford" shirt with standard button cuffs in their "slim" fit.  I also ordered a navy tie with small polka dots and grabbed a pair of silk knots for my Turnbull & Asser shirt.  The grand total: $45.50.

I patiently waited for the items to arrive, and after about 7 or 8 days, the package showed up.

The tie is a fine silk, and fairly slim.  I left the tags on, but plan on wearing it for my next formal obligation.

I prefer button cuffs, as they are more appropriate for my station in the business world (a grunt) and a white, business shirt one of those staples you will always need as many as you can get!

The fit is pretty good, although the shirt could definitely use a good pressing.  Here I am with my new Turnbull & Asser tie, and a pair of charcoal wool Zanellas.  Please excuse the douchebaggy face, caught myself mid blink!

Received a catalog that is pretty tastefully done and highlights the collection.  I enjoy those farthing cufflinks in the bottom photo, definitely on my list.  The Ben Silver catalog arrived on the same day and is fantastic as well!

Heavy Tweed Jacket - Available for limited time

Heavy Tweed Jacket is a one man blog who employs a unique strategy of posting fairly regularly for a month or two, then going dark for 6 months, leaving no trace of the traddy menswear blog.  His archive of trad catelogs (and Grateful Dead mixtapes) is quite impressive, and I am sure he will send the Vintage Brooks Brothers ebay market up more than a couple basis points!

SartoriallyInclined's L.A.S. gives us the skinny on all things in the fashion world, and is more tuned in than I ever will be.  However, we are both fans of UNIS, especially their Gio chinos.  Based on his post, it looks like there will now be a "slim" version of the Gio this season.  Pretty appetizing for the skinny set, but I am not quite lean enough for that yet.
 

 
Mark at MDA is one of my daily reads as he is the master of the primal/paleo movement in my humble opinion.  The recipe is a little more in-depth than I typically like to go for cooking, but the seasonal ingredients and great photography really make me want to cook this up.
 

 
Food Renegade comments on Fried Chicken Skins as well as a recipe.  Sounds like a tasty snack, but not an everyday thing.

Giuseppe hosted his 4th semi-annual Affordable Flea at Somerville's Davis Square VFW.  Looks like it was a successful event, but man do I miss Boston.  Also check out his new Volvo! (I do not support leaving the Brown sticker on FYI)

Fall Staples

Boy, it was a great summer, cookouts, hiking, and a big move.  With football starting and the weather getting chilly, New England autumn is creeping up on us.  I may take a trip up to Vermont in October to do some leaf peeping and get some Heady Topper cans at The Alchemist.  Here are some of my wardrobe staples for the upcoming season.

Barbour Bedale

Waxed cotton is always a favorite of mine, especially on dreary, foggy, cool days.  Made in England, the capital of dreary, foggy, cool days.


Patagonia Snap-T Fleece

Warm, affordable, available in a ton of great colors.  An old stand-by.


Crewneck Sweaters

Some older vintage shetland wool sweaters are in my rotation, along with more recent J.Crew lambswool joints.  Hopefully a J.Press Shaggy Dog is in my future for my birthday!


Oxford Cloth Button Down Shirts

Really these are a year-round staple, although I call on them much less during the summer.  I will often throw an aforementioned crewneck sweater on top of the shirt, especially when November rolls around.  Good options are Mercer and Sons, J.Press, Brooks Brothers, Land's End & LL Bean.

Red Wing Boots

I personally wear the classic 875s, although the Gentleman Travelers above are extremely temting


Raw Denim

Looks great with your Barbour Bedale jacket, this dark unwashed denim fades and fits your body as it gets older.  These are the only jeans I wear.  Check out APC New Standard or anything at Self Edge.


Filson Alaskan Flannel

Flannels are my weekend staple until March and "no one makes them better than Filson."  Great colors and built like a tank.

Supreme x Levis

Supreme is one of my favorite clothing brands, I used to skateboard when I was younger, and for this reason I definitely vibe with their styling.  Levi's is an American classic and Supreme teamed up with them to produce two dope jackets, a pair of chambray shirts, a vest, and a some jeans.  I really appreciate that Levi's decided to make these products at home in the USA.  The star detail on the jeans will mean that I am definitely not buying them, but I do love the 505 cut.  My favorite piece is the canvas jacket, and I will consider picking it up if the price is reasonable.
